First Steps in Finishing

This class will help take the fear and frustration out of knitting garments with seams. We will cover flawless (and painless!) side seams, a no-sew joining method for straight shoulders, and knitting tips to make finishing easier.

Thurs., Jan. 27   6pm-8pm

Supplies: Smooth, worsted weight yarn in a LIGHT COLOR. (Suggested yarn: Cascade 220.)

Appropriately-sized knitting needles (any size that will allow you to knit between 4-5 stitches per inch) and a spare needle one or two sizes larger Tapestry (blunt-pointed) needle large enough for your yarn

Step One: Leaving at least a 24" tail, cast on 20 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for 30 rows. Do NOT bind off-- place stitches on a stitch holder and break the yarn, leaving at least an 8" tail.

Step Two: Work a second piece exactly like the first but do NOT bind off and do NOT break the yarn; just leave the stitches on the knitting needle.

Step Three: Transfer the stitches of the first piece from the stitch holder back to the empty knitting needle.
